│ ASSOCIATION OF SHAREWARE PROFESSIONALS (ASP) OMBUDSMAN NOTICE │
├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ This program is produced by a member of the Association of │

│ ware principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a shareware │
│ related problem with an ASP member by contacting the member directly, │
│ ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can help you resolve a │
│ dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not provide technical │
│ support for members' products. Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at: │

│ WHAT IS SHAREWARE │
├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Shareware is a method of distribution which affords the end-user │
│ with the opportunity to try the software out before making a decision │
│ to buy the program. If you try a shareware program and believe that you│
│ have received a benefit through using it or will continue to use it, you│
│ are expected to register. Some shareware programs request registration │
│ while others require it. Some specify a maximum trial period while some│
│ do not. Upon registration of your program, you may get the right to │
│ continued use of the software and or numerous other benefits such as a │
│ hard bound printed glossy manual. │
│ Copyright laws apply to both Shareware as well as commercial │
│ software and the copyright holder retains all rights. Shareware authors│
│ are accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors and the │
│ programs are of comparable quality. There are good and bad programs for│
│ either method of distribution. Many Shareware authors require written │
│ permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware. │
│ Shareware is a distribution method, not some type of FREE soft- │
│ ware and comes with the ultimate guarantee...If you don't use the │
│ program, you don't have to pay for it! │

│ INSTALL YOUR PROGRAM │
├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ At this point, you should have the following 10 files copied into a │
│directory on your hard-drive: 1STREAD.DOC, BBS.DIZ, FILE_ID.DIZ, │
│INSTALL.BAT, PACKING.LST, PROGRAMS.EXE, SDA.SDA, SYSOP.DOC, VENDOR.DOC │
│and VERSIONS.DOC Also, after installing this program compare the files │
│shown in the directory to those listed in the PACKING.LST file. │
│If any files are missing, do not use the program! │
│Contact the distributor or BBS and advise them that you have received an │
│incomplete archive and want a correct replacement. If they cannot help │
│you, contact Dynamic Development Unlimited for a new update. │
│ To install this program, type INSTALL at the DOS prompt and provide │
│the install command to use install properly. Install will advise you. │
│If for some reason you simply cannot use the INSTALL program, do this: │
│Decompress the files contained in the PROGRAMS.EXE by typing PROGRAM. │
│Use the DOS COPY command to copy data files onto a floppy disk ie: │
│COPY *.DAT B: If you want to use a hard-drive subdirectory to store and│
│work with your data files use the DOS commands MD (make directory) and │
│COPY to complete the task. (Consult your DOS manual for instructions). │

│ VIEW OR PRINT-OUT THE STUDENT MANUAL │
├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ │
│ After you have installed the simulation program onto your hard drive, │
│ you should view or print-out the student manual. The manual is in │
│ Ansi format and can be viewed with any ansi reader or by using the DOS │
│ TYPE command. You can also print the manual using the DOS PRINT │
│ command. (Consult your DOS manual). │
│ Example to view manual using DOS-----> TYPE MANUAL.TXT │
│ Example to print manual using DOS----> PRINT MANUAL.TXT │
│ If you experience problems with the PRINT command, it may be due to │
│ not having your DOS directory (path) included in your AUTOEXEC.BAT │
│ file's PATH line (Consult your DOS manual). │
│ │
│ As this manual contains worksheets that fill the pages from top to │
│ bottom, you will want to place the print head precisely on top of the │
│ perforation before printing the manual. If using a laser printer, turn │
│ off the top/bottom margin or set them to 0, as the ansi file already │
│ has margins spaced into the text. │

│ STARTING THE PROGRAM │
├──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ │
│ To start the Ferndale Fashions Ltd program type FERNDALE at the DOS │
│ prompt that contains the program files. │
│ After the opening Welcome Screen you will be presented with a data path│
│ input screen. You use this input screen to tell the program where to │
│ look for and use data files during the current session. You can use │
│ any floppy drive or hard-drive path, but the data files must already be│
│ copied into that hard-drive subdirectory or the floppy disk must be in │
│ the drive before using the path. If not, the program will give you an │
│ error message and provide you with the options of trying again or exit.│
